Anonymous asked: what do you mean Tumblr is a terrible place to source anything you learned about sexism or racism?
Well the thing about it is that a lot of people only have like 25% of an idea of what they’re talking about influencing a bunch of people who are just now learning the information.
In reference to feminism specifically you have a ton of people who are angry and passioned when they are informing other people who are unaware or ignorant. And as a result it just ends up as a chain of people who are improperly educated on the subject because nobody did any research which is AWFUL because there is so much on the subject. You can take about 2 years worth of Philosophy courses and then decide you want to specialize in Feminism Philosophy and there would be just as much to cover, if not more.
And when it comes to racism a lot of people are unaware about how specific cultures work and scream “racism!” or “appropriation!” at things that are potentially neither because they don’t know anything about the situation or the culture represented. Take for example a time when I saw a bunch of people bitching at this girl for wearing a Kimono because she was appropriating Japanese culture when 1) she was in Japan and 2) the Japanese are a very inclusive culture who encourage participation in the culture.
Now this isn’t me saying that everything Tumblr points out concerning racism or sexism or anything along those lines is inaccurate or wrong. It just tends to be overimposed and angry and improperly informed.
